Equality and Diversity

Equality and diversity run through everything we do at Green Ridge and we ensure that every pupil has the opportunity to access the very highest standards of education.

As part of REAch2, Green Ridge provides 11b411 experiences to all pupils – eleven experiences for children to have before they turn eleven years old; in practice this means opening up opportunities such as learning an instrument, horse-riding or seeing a West End show, that many of our pupils may not otherwise experience. In addition to this, we have a very broad selection of extra-curricular activities and seek to ensure these are accessible to all pupils.

We pride ourselves on our diverse staff and ensure that all recruitment, employment, promotion and training systems are fair, and provide opportunities for everyone to achieve. For pupils, we work hard to remove barriers to learning that may occur owing to indirect discrimination.

At Green Ridge, we celebrate the cultural diversity of our community. In addition to our robust curriculum teaching values and religious studies, throughout the school year we celebrate diverse religious festivals, and regularly invite guest speakers from a variety of different faiths and beliefs.

We are proud to have been awarded the Rights Respecting Schools Award by UNICEF, which deepens our pupils’ knowledge of equality, and encourages them to become responsible, active citizens.

Our governors meet regularly to review our progress with Equality and Diversity, and as per the requirements of the Public Sector Equality Duty as defined by legislation in 2010 set objectives (below) to ensure we are fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
