About Us

Green Ridge Academy is a new primary school built on Berryfields, which opened in September 2017 in temporary accommodation on the site of the permanent building.  The academy currently has three classes, comprising of two Reception classes and a mixed-aged Key Stage One class.  The permanent school building is due to open for September 2018.  The school will then grow year-on-year with a Nursery, taking children from aged 2-11.  The school will initially have a capacity for over 450 children, but is being built with the additional capacity to extend to a three-form entry school with just over 650 children.

The academy is now looking to appoint permanent staff to open the academy in its brand-new building, joining the existing staff who helped set-up the school this year, being part of the unique opportunity to build and grow the school from its infancy.  There is no doubt about it, setting up the academy from scratch will take vision, dedication and hard-work, but being part of that exciting and rare journey will be very rewarding to see the academy take shape over the next few years.  To see more information about the school, including design plans of the school, please visit our website

About the role

Our long term aim and vision is that the academy will have access to a full-time PE Coach/Specialist, who can teach PE and provide professional development to other staff.  However, currently as a growing school, this is not yet possible and so we are looking for someone part-time.  However, there is scope and plans for the role to grow into a full-time one, and there is also the possibility that this role could be full-time from September, for the right candidate who is willing to be flexible about what the job entails.

You will be the lead for PE and sports across the academy, taking responsibility for the majority of lessons planned and taught, and providing development for teachers in delivering their own lessons.  This will be a flexible role which could be working with all children across the academy, from Early Years to Key Stage 2.  The role also includes supervising children during break and lunchtimes, both on the playground and in the dining room, and we anticipate that the role will take a lead on providing enrichment and games during the lunchtime to contribute towards the overall sports provision.  The role will also involve taking responsibility for the organisation of school games, competition and sports events locally within the sports partnership.

What we’re looking for

You could be a school-leaver, interested in studying PE at university, wishing to train as a PE teacher or sports coach and want experience within an educational setting before you apply for further studies.  You could be a qualified sports coach/teacher, and wish to make your mark on your own setting, establishing a curriculum and provision from scratch.  For us, the most important thing you will bring is your passion for your sports and your ability to coach and teach young children in PE; the qualifications associated with this can be gained on the job as with the experience, but the ability to communicate effectively with young children and teach PE is of paramount importance.

The successful candidate will have:

  • The motivation and passion to achieve the very best for the children within PE and sports
  • A good understanding or awareness of the Early Years Foundation Stage and/or a good understanding of the Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 curriculum for PE
  • A good understanding of the range of additional needs that pupils can have and how best to support them within PE and sports
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a wider team
  • The ability to work on initiative
  • A ‘can-do’ approach to all aspects of academy life
  • A willingness to undertake professional development and grow their skills
  • Excellent communication skills and a good sense of humour

In return we can offer:

  • A firm commitment to you and your professional development
  • Friendly, supportive, enthusiastic and hardworking colleagues, staff and Governors
  • A growing learning community
  • Encouragement to develop new ideas and the opportunity to make a real difference
