In Year Four, the pupils learn a new unit each half term: Anglo-Saxons, Moving Mountains, Violent Vikings, Spectacular Spain, Off with her Head! and Amazing Amazon.
In Autumn, the children will learn about who the Anglo-Saxons were and how they lived. Then learning about mountain ranges, the different mountain types, look at how they are represented on a 2D map and identify the animals and vegetation within mountain regions. In Spring, the children will explore the Vikings, where they came from, how they lived and their weapons and battle gear. Afterwards, they will be exploring the human and physical features of Spain and compare the climates and traditions and cultures to those in the UK. For the Summer, they will explore who the Tudors were and then learn in more detail about Henry VIII, his six wives, and the Great Matter. For their final topic, they will name and locate the countries in South America, before comparing the climate in the Amazon Rainforest and the UK. They will also be identifying the different layers of the Rainforest and evaluating the pressures placed upon it. Within these key themes, the pupils will be exposed to a range of curriculum subjects across the terms.
