Letter from the appointed Headteacher
I am delighted to have been appointed as the Headteacher of Green Ridge Primary Academy, the new primary school for Berryfields. As part of the REAch2 academy trust, Green Ridge will be part of a larger community of schools across the country who are focussed on providing exceptional opportunities for learning.
As someone who lives within Aylesbury Vale, I know that Green Ridge will be a welcomed addition to the area to meet the growing demand for school places. This is an exciting and rare opportunity to open a brand-new, purpose built school which will have state-of-the-art facilities to prepare our children for their lives ahead. Having previously led a Church of England primary school and a three-form entry academy, I know the benefits of working together with the community and how important it is that Green Ridge is an exciting place of learning for all. My experience of working within an infant school and having taught across the entire primary age range in different geographical areas allows me to appreciate the needs of children at different stages of development, and most importantly, how to ensure that children access outstanding teaching and learning opportunities so that they can excel.
My background in leadership and teaching has given me opportunities to work as a Specialist Leader of Education, supporting other schools and leaders in a variety of subject areas such as English, Mathematics and Special Educational Needs, as well as Assessment and Initial Teacher Training. Through undertaking Masters Degrees in the teaching of Mathematics as well as Educational Leadership, I am passionate about ensuring the best outcomes for children and giving them every opportunity to succeed, whatever their barriers may be. Green Ridge will be an academy where every child is respected and treated as an individual, with no limits placed on their learning – just opportunities to continually improve with a growth Mindset approach. We will not ‘label’ children or group them by perceived ‘ability’; we will instead give all children equal opportunities to challenge themselves through the range of tasks and activities presented to them – empowering children to take ownership and responsibility for their own learning.
Green Ridge will be a school which is designed to meet and be responsive to the needs of the local community it serves. With two other primary schools close by, it is key that Green Ridge works collaboratively alongside them, but at the same time, remains distinctive in its own right. Our academy will rightly pride itself on the high expectations it places on the academic achievements and behaviour of all children, whatever their need, as well as a broad, diverse and engaging creative curriculum which will underpin all that we do. Green Ridge will be an inclusive setting, valuing all children’s achievements and ensuring that each child is given every opportunity to meet their full potential. There is no doubt that Green Ridge will be an exciting place to be – for children, staff, parents and the local community!
I look forward to meeting many of you over the coming months at the open events taking place in Buckingham Park Community Centre, or at one of the meetings for new parents/carers and children joining the school in September 2017.
